Man in his 70s dies in Clacton house fire
A neighbour has paid tribute to a man in his 70s who died in a fire at his home in Essex.
The man, named locally as David Foster, was found unconscious in his living room on Warwick Road in Clacton last night. He lived alone.
Neighbours called the fire service when they heard the smoke alarms.
Investigations into the cause of the blaze are continuing.
It’s thought Mr Foster heard the alarms but his house was too cluttered for him to escape before he was overcome by smoke.
“He was quite a good, pleasant chap. A good neighbour,” Kenneth Aldis told ITV News Anglia.
“He was helpful and long-standing. We were in the same position being on our own so it was nice to have someone to have a little chat to.”
