London Marathon challenge!
Firefighters are limbering up for this year’s London Marathon!
Watch Commander Darrell Hird and Firefighter Holly Stuart will be completing the 26.2 mile run this Sunday (April 24). Holly, who works in the Control Room at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, is raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity. WC Hird is running in aid a small charity called The Micro and Anophthalmic Children’s Society (MACS) which raises money for children born either blind or with sight defects.
Darrell, 48, works in a pool of firefighters that move around stations where required. He said: “I represented MACS two years ago in 2014 doing my first ever marathon in London and raised over £1,500. “I completed the course in three and a half hours and this year I am hoping to run in under three and a quarter hours.”
Holly, 22, is hoping to raise £750 for The Fire Fighters Charity. She said: “I’m not naturally very good at running so my aim this year is to run, or should I say jog, all the way! “It is my second time doing the London Marathon, having completed it three years ago. I really struggled last time due to lack of training but this time I have taken it far more seriously and my aim is to pass the finish line in under five hours!”
“I’m feeling quite confident about it and I’m looking forward to the buzz of atmosphere that you get with the crowds lining the streets and cheering you on.” – Holly Stuart, Firefighter
