Firefighters called to young deer trapped in railings
Firefighters were called to rescue a young deer today (Thursday, May 4) after it became trapped in railings at a park in Birstall.
Leciestershire Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call today at 9.37am to request help freeing a young deer in the park on Harrogate Drive, Birstall.
One appliance from Birstall Station attended the scene and firefighters initially made attempts to free the animal using a pedal cutter.
The RSPCA was requested to attend due to injuries to the abdomen of the deer.
The service released the deer using a reciprocating saw and a spokesperson from the service reported the deer is being transported to the vets for treatment.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were also called at 2am this morning to a fire at an industrial premises in Tollwell Road, Leicester.
Appliances from Western Station, Birstall Station and Eastern Station were in attendance.
It was reported the fire on mezzanine floor of the premises involved three compressors and one electric motor. The fire was extinguished at 2.50am.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been an accidental electrical fault.
Heavy smoke damage was sustained to the first floor of the building and light smoke damage to ground floor.
