Fire Service and Asda finalists in national awards recognising partnership work
A partnership between West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) and Asda has been selected to be a finalist at the National Primary Authority Awards to be held in London on 18 May 2016.
The Primary Authority Scheme forges statutory partnerships between regulatory bodies, such as the Fire Service, and businesses at local level in order that advice can be issued and implemented consistently at national level within the organisation.
There are over 10,000 direct partnerships nationwide and out of 30 who entered, WYFRS and Asda have made it to the final six.
The aim of the awards is to showcase best practice in Primary Authority Partnerships.
Fire Protection Manager for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, Chris Kemp said: “It is excellent news that our hard work and dedication has paid off!
“Primary Authority Partnerships are a fantastic way of supporting businesses to achieve consistency in the application of regulation. Our partnership with Asda has grown from strength to strength and highlights how a partnership can influence and shape the global safety management systems of a USA-based business.”
WYFRS has a highly productive partnership with Asda, resulting in Primary Authority Advice on general policy areas and fire safety issues. This year the focus has been on fire safety risk assessments.
Stuart Wiggans, Senior Director for Compliance-Retail Operations at Asda, said: “Asda have developed an excellent working relationship through the Primary Authority Partnerships that are in place with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“The partnership has delivered great benefits in the delivery of consistent interpretation of legislation demonstrated through clear policy and process. The partnership continues to move forward and develop in new areas, and supports our position to be Britain’s most trusted retailer.”
The partnership was officially signed on September 23, 2014, by then Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton and Stuart Wiggans, Senior Director, Compliance – Retail Operations for Asda.
