A main road through a town was closed following a fire at a restaurant overnight.

The blaze broke out at around 4.50am in King Street, Alfreton, on Thursday, March 23 and the road remains closed with emergency services on the scene.

Pictures show crews fighting a blaze at the back of the New Bengal restaurant.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service says teams from five different stations have been sent to the three-storey building.

Traffic was diverted as King Street has been closed between Hall Street and B6019 High Street.

Derbyshire Fire Service say the cause is thought to be a faulty electrical appliance in the kitchen.
